There will come soft rains
Our fear of robot is essentially the fear of ourselves.

This project is build around the narrative, in reflection of what technology have left us to be.
To me, this narrative is hitting on the tender feelings of life and death, future and fear. The narration to me is like a ticking mechanical clock, like soldiers demanding obedience, they are strictly punctual under a pokerface, yet knowing tragedy awaits. When the clock strikes the hour, it's counting down time of all life, both biological and mechanical. It's not really difficult to put this narratives into a modern day fable. Since, it is already an outlook about future (2026). What interests me the most is the Historical background of the story on WWII and atomic (new invention) destruction. Horrific war is not what I was expecting nor can related to, because I was thankful enough to born in peaceful days, but I am afraid that this peaceful dream might someday come to an end, like all things in the narratives. Similarly, the story concerns today's popular 'expeditions' of robot, AI and even Artificial general intelligence (AGI). Of robots being too approachable, and alike us. We are afraid of being replaced, being useless, that is eventually the fear of possess no meaning in life and our own extinction. Till the end, this might be the case: only our houses stand, oh no, not even the house. |

My process of creating this 360 illustration is rather different from my other works. I played an audio recording of the story (linked above) again and again while I was drawing. Due to my trouble in long-term remembering articles, I think this way of working notably enhanced my memories of the English narratives. Not only in this way, I am able to immerse myself in the ocean of the plot, repetitively, allowed my emotion to grow stronger, and my understanding of the narratives to go deeper. But also I, taking on the role as the audiences, create works at the same angle/experience that my future audiences going to have is the most effective way of making art work.
